iPhonaddict Reviews: iPad Air Smart Cover

With the introduction of the new iPad Air, Apple also announced new Smart Covers and Smart Cases. Lets take a look at the Smart Cover.

The Smart Cover ($39.00) has a polyurethane cover with a mircofiber layer inside to help keep your device clean.  There is a magnet that is attached to the cover to secure it to your iPad. Once the cover is attached to your iPad, simply rolling the cover back will wake it up. Rolling the cover back down will put your iPad to sleep.

The Smart Cover is available in 6 colors, one being a Product (RED) which part of the proceeds help fight AIDS. They are thin, light, proactive and provide a quick way to clean your screen.

Black, Product (RED), Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green

The magnet for the new covers is far superior to the previous generation. With the last generation, you could easily knock the cover off of your device.  This time around it is very secure.  I would not be comfortable doing this with the previous version.

There are 2 things I do not like about the Smart Cover.

  1. The cover does not always line up and it sometimes slides
  2. When rolled up and tucked behind the iPad, it collapses often making it useless as a way to prop up the iPad.  I think this is because there are only 3 panels to the cover.  The previous version had 4 panels.

That being said, I do like this version of  Smart Cover compared to the previous version. It is more secure and available in new colors. If you like the minimalist feel of your iPad Air and only want protection for the front then the Smart Cover is the way to go.
